Connect Housing appointed Esh Living, part of Esh Construction, to construct the £1m development with completion in January 2019. Connect Housing worked in partnership with Homes England, who awarded grant funding of £400,000, and also worked closely with Leeds City Council.
The scheme has provided eight new affordable homes at Harley Green, Swinnow, Leeds.
The properties have two bedrooms and are designed to be highly energy-efficient. They have been built on a former garage site, the only Leeds City Council-owned housing site in the Pudsey ward big enough to sustain a development.
Stuart Leslie, Divisional Director for the Yorkshire and Humber Regions at Esh Construction, said: “It’s great to have been a major part of this scheme with Connect Housing which is a fantastic investment for the area. The new homes have had a dramatic effect on young families searching for affordable homes in Leeds.”
Martyn Broadest, Director of Home at Connect Housing, added: “It’s always exciting to see the completion of the new development, and give a new group of families the opportunity. This scheme has been very challenging to put together, and we are grateful for the support of the Council, our contractors and Homes England in helping to make it happen.”
Residents are currently moving into their homes, quoting “…the view over the city is spectacular at night” and “we really love the house, it is a lovely place for our baby to grow up.”
Sandy has previously won a National Green Apple award for Environmental Best Practice for his involvement on The Piece Hall Restoration Project in Halifax. He started his career as a Bricklayer before progressing into management.

I am very proud to have received this award, not only for the recognition from LABC, but the dedication set into delivering a successful affordable housing site.
