A new community mental health hub, which will provide modern outpatient facilities for local people of all ages who need to access mental health and learning disability services, has opened in Northallerton.
Named North Moor House, the development has been delivered by Esh Construction’s commercial build division in partnership with Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV).
Input from service users and carers has helped shape the design of the 2,500 square metre building and its surroundings, ensuring it will meet the needs of the local population. A welcoming entrance and reception area greets visitors, while light and airy consulting rooms are a key feature throughout the three-storey facility.
As well as offering modern, welcoming facilities, North Moor House also provides community team offices and much needed increased consulting room space. This will support improved access to services, allowing more people to be seen as quickly as possible and reducing waiting times.
Gary Dobson, Divisional Director at Esh Construction, said: “Collaboration has been key throughout this development, and we have worked closely with our client, TEWV, and consultant team to ensure that the new building will meet the needs of service users and carers for years to come.
“The subject of mental health has become increasingly pressing throughout the years, particularly within construction where the industry is working hard to reduce the stigma and signpost those in need to support. It is really positive to see the development of facilities like North Moor House and as a local contractor we’re proud to play our part in its construction.”
The development of North Moor House represents TEWV’s ongoing commitment to invest in the modernisation of mental health services. The new hub, is a much-welcomed addition to the local community and brings mental health and learning disability services from the Friarage, Brompton House and Gibraltar House, together, under one roof.
Martin Dale, strategic project manager for TEWV, explained: “It’s really important that people are able to share their views on what matters to them in order to make their experience when visiting one of our sites a positive one. That’s why we actively involved service users and carers in the development of the hub and listened to their feedback in order to create a welcoming environment that meets their needs.”
Naomi Lonergan, TEWV Director of Operations for the local area, added: “After many years of services being spread across the local area, the development of North Moor House is a major step forward as it allows us to bring all of our community and out-patient services together.
“Teams can now work more closely with one another, which will benefit service users and staff alike by improving communication and aiding transfers of care between services, such as when young people transition to adult services.”
