Work to improve Norton High Street and create a more pedestrian-friendly environment is set to get underway following Esh Construction being appointed as contractor.
On behalf of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Esh’s civil engineering division will create a northbound one-way system at the southern section of the high street and public realm improvements will include work to extend pedestrianised areas.
The scheme will help to accommodate Norton’s popularity both during the day and evenings while also allowing room for exciting new opportunities and further growth, such as leisure activities, pop-up markets and outdoor seating.

The proposals were developed via the Council’s ‘Let’s Talk About Our Towns’ public consultation which identified a need for improvements to parking in the area, traffic flow and continuing to offer support for local businesses.

The project in Norton adds to Esh’s pipeline of work in the borough having broken ground on the development of Stockton Waterfront in December last year. The new urban park is tipped to be a transformational public space for residents and visitors. Across the river, Esh is delivering the remodelling and refurbishment of Dunedin House to provide a collaborative and modern headquarters for the Council.
