We operate throughout the North East, the Tees Valley, Yorkshire and the Humber, providing commercial build, civil engineering, affordable and private housing services to the private and public sector.
Esh Group was formed in 1999 by Michael Hogan, Jack Lumsden and Tony Carroll Snr through the merger of Dunelm Castle Homes, Deerness Fencing, Sones Landscaping and Lumsden & Carroll Civil Engineering. We are proud of our heritage — retaining the honest, passionate, hardworking philosophy on which our business was built.

Lumsden & Carroll founded.
Founding company of Esh Group was formed by Jack Lumsden and Tony Carroll.

1973
First office acquired.
Lumsden & Carroll acquired an office in the former colliery village of Esh Winning – where Esh Group gets its name.

Brian Manning joins.
Formed CEO, Brian Manning joined Lumsden & Carroll from Monk Construction.

1975
Fencing & Landscaping merger.
Deerness Fencing partnership was formed between Michael Hogan, Jim and John Duffy.

1985
Dunelm (Castle) Homes launched.
Deerness Fencing merged with Sones Landscaping and Michael Hogan launched private house building company – Dunelm (Castle) Homes.

1989
Stephen Wilkie joins.
Now Deputy CEO, Stephen Wilkie joined Lumsden & Carroll from school aged 17.

1995
First residential scheme.
Michael Hogan and Brian Manning (of Lumsden & Carroll) formed a joint venture delivering their first residential scheme.

1999
Esh Group formed.
Following a number of joint ventures Deerness Fencing, Sones Landscaping, Dunelm (Castle) Homes and Lumsden & Carroll merged to form Esh Group.

2003
Office and plant yard re-location.
Esh House in Bowburn became the new home for the Group as expansion plans got underway.

2006
Esh Charitable Trust formed.
Over £1.6 million has been donated to good causes in our local communities.

2015
Esh awarded first of two BITC Awards.
Esh holds two BITC National Education Awards for ‘Building My Skills’ & ‘Get into STEM’.

2017
Andy Radcliffe appointed as CEO.
Andy has been at the company since 2010, initially joining as Chief Financial Officer from Moores Furniture Group.

Esh Group receives Queen’s Award.
Esh was awarded a Queen’s Awards for Enterprise: Promoting Opportunity & Social Mobility.

2021
Largest ever civil engineering contract completed.
The £42.5 million Phase 3 of the Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor scheme was the largest to date for Esh Group.

Deerness Fencing & Landscaping purchased.
The Hogan family purchased Deerness Fencing & Landscaping from Esh Group.
